The Information of Office of the Fateh Movement is calling for public attention to Israel’s policy of arresting women and girls intended to pressure other Palestinian political prisoners.
Wednesday’s call comes in the wake of Israeli forces arresting 32 year old Roidah Taher during the middle of the night in the northern West Bank city of Nablus. Her husband is Samer Taher, a member of Fateh and a political prisoner in Israeli jail.
Last month Israeli forces arrested two young women from Nablus, one from Balata Refugee Camp in eastern Nablus City, and the other from a nearby village.
The first, a mother of six, was interrogated and intimidated for five continuous hours, according to local reports. She was then dumped off in a deserted area in rural Nablus. She was handcuffed and humiliated at the hands of Israeli intelligence officers, as the young woman reported to journalists and Palestinian security sources. Her husband is a political prisoner.
The Fateh party’s Public Information Office in Nablus is appealing to the international community to intervene to put an end to this Israeli government practice. Israeli Prime Minister Olmert is reportedly using such a tactic to pressure “wanted” family members to surrender or to pressure those who are already inside the prisons to give information regarding other Palestinians.
